Comparing my newspaper poster to my inspiration poster.

Although I took inspiration from The Independent poster, I added my own ideas and created a unique newspaper poster. After research I identified that most local newspaper posters, advertised main headlines and stories whereas my poster tells the reader the name, price, location, day of purchase, social networking sites and images of the location. I believe my poster says a lot about my local newspaper, attracting readers and buyers.

Turning my newspaper poster into a realistic advert.

Using a website called www.makesweet.com I decided to be creative and bring my newspaper posters to life. By doing this I was able to visualise my posters as a real advertisement. I was then able to identify how eye catching and informative it would be for a consumer. I am very proud of my final outcome, adding my poster to billboards makes them realistic and creative.

Newspaper poster

This is my finished newspaper poster; I used the same colour scheme as my newspaper and website to create a corporate feel. I feel my poster stands out as the colours are bright and distinctive; the red contrasts the black perfectly. I used a photo of Gosfield as well as an image of newspaper cuttings to allow the consumer to identify what the product is advertising. On my poster I have informed the consumer of the price and sale date of my local newspaper as well as the social sites which they could use to connect and access their local news using technology. I have also incorporated the technical market by including a new Smartphone app, which will allow the consumer to access up to date local news; making my pap interactive. My poster itself is also interactive as it has a special barcode where the consumer can scan the code and be put straight to a offer for the newspaper as well as snippets of local news. I also think my poster is eye catching to all target audiences of all ages, as well as informative. I feel that my poster meets the task as it advertises the newspaper in a sophisticated, professional form. I also feel I have expanded on my task making the newspaper accessible 24-7 through advertising of online media; making my poster very contemporary and modern.

Halstead Gazette poster outside my villiage shop.

I decided to visit my local village shop and see the newspaper advertisement they have placed outside. The Halstead gazette poster follows the typical conventions of just a headline of a current story, the style is the same with house colours and logo. The poster is simplistic and unoriginal, however it does encourage people to look and buy the newspaper to read more about the advertised story. The poster itself looks tired and aged, I believe it could do with an update giving more information about the local area and newspaper

Ideas/plans for my newspaper poster advert

In order to map my ideas for my advertisement I decided to draw a rough sketch of my layout then mind map the finer details. I have challenged normal newspaper advertisements as I felt just having a headline advertising a newspaper was boring and uninformative.  I have also been original and creative with my poster as I have added modern technology through a smartphone app, social networking sites and a barcode offering a discounted price for the paper. Everything on the poster is purposefully placed to attractive readers and buyers, I used the same font colours and masthead to create an identity for the newspaper, to allow people to recognise the newspaper whether it be on paper or online. I wanted to not only create a newspaper, a poster and a website but a brand something the locals could be proud of and identify with.

My poster also shows off Gosfield's landscape representing what Gosfield is all about so the readers could connect with the papers aim - to report their local news. I believe my advertisement is fresh, eye catching and smart setting a bench mark for the rest of the paper, my reader feedback have also confirmed that the poster would encourage them to purchase the newspaper, they also felt it was different then any other poster they had seen for a newspaper.

Newspaper poster research.

In order to identify conventions of newspaper posters, I used the internet and Google images to see what they look like and the similarities they share. This ancillary task was difficult as unlike local newspapers and websites, posters are not very common or well recognised. Therefore my newspaper poster may not follow typical conventions of local newspaper posters as there are few examples, also I wanted to challenge the conventions and make my own unique brand and poster. The conventions I can visually identify from this collage is that the posters seem to advertise main stories and headlines rather than the newspaper itself, it appears to be san serif black font with a white background and the house colours of the local newspaper. What I like about the posters and would intend to use on my poster is the use of house colours and brand identify; my masthead and colours will be present on the local newspaper poster. In my opinion the posters do not appear very eye catching or sell the local area or newspaper very well, they are very deceptive and not very informative. I feel that my poster will represent the local area and will be informative of what the local paper has to offer.

Although The Independent is not a local newspaper I have taken inspiration from their poster advertisement. I like the simplicity yet informative style of the poster, the colours also match my house colours and masthead. I also feel that the poster is unique and different to all the other newspaper posters I have researched, the most common form of poster advertisement appears to be headlines of the stories which feature in the weeks issue of the local newspaper. Although it may work for local newspapers that are already established and well known, Gosfield gazette is a brand new, unknown newspaper therefore I feel that my poster advertisement needs more information and connectivity for its readers.

Poster research.

I researched online different newspaper poster advertisements, I brainstormed the features and comparison of each poster. I found it hard to research posters as there does not appear to many out there, newspaper posters are less common nowadays as interactive social media makes it easier for editors to advertise their papers and stories.
